Community and Home Care Services
The Ohio Legislature has mandated that Long Term Care Ombudsman Programs investigate and resolve complaints regarding persons age 60 and over who receive any of the home care services described below.

Adult Day Care Programs provide services to persons with moderate physical or mental handicaps who live alone or with families in the community.

Chore Services are those services that help with household tasks such as shopping, simple household repairs and other light work for persons unable to perform these tasks.

Case Management coordinates home care service delivery to a physically or mentally handicapped person.

Congregate meal programs provide noon day meals to older persons at a central location.

Durable Medical Equipment includes oxygen equipment, wheelchairs and other medical equipment.

Escort Services are those services that provide an escort to accompany older persons, individually or in small groups, to assist with such tasks as shopping, banking, and getting to and from medical appointments.

Health Care Services include nursing care; physical, speech, and occupational therapy; and infusion and respiratory therapy.

Home-Delivered Meals are meals delivered to home-bound older persons.

Hospice Services include providing pain relief, symptom management and supportive services to terminally ill people and their families.

Housekeeping/Homemaker Services include housecleaning, laundry, essential shopping errands, and meal preparation for semi-independent older persons.

Information and Referral Service is a local telephone number in the community where people can call to receive help and assistance by being referred to the appropriate agency where help can be obtained.

Outreach Services inform the community of available services which enable the older person to reside in their own homes.

Personal Care/Home Health Aide Services provide basic health maintenance or personal hygiene assistance.

Protective Services are those services which protect older persons from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

Respite Services provide temporary in-home care to older individuals with physical and/or mental conditions who require constant care in order to relieve the family caregiver.

Senior Centers offer educational and recreational programs as well as social services for older persons.

Social/Support Services include telephone reassurance, companions, and friendly visitors.

Transportation Services include automobile and van transportation for older persons, as well as vehicles that accommodate wheelchairs and other special needs.

And Any Other Service provided to persons age sixty and older which allow them to retain their independence in their own homes or in community care settings. For infomation on types of facility-based long-term care, click here.
