Consumers of Home Care Services have the right to:

  • A timely response to their requests for service,
  • Respect
  • Adequate and appropriate care,
  • Confidential use of personal information,
  • Participation in decisions about their care,
  • Information in advance about the charges they are responsible for paying and receive itemized billing,
  • Referrals elsewhere if they are unable to pay,
  • Information in advance of the termination of service or transfer to another agency,
  • Voice grievances without fear of retaliation.

Home Care consists of any service for older persons who need some help with personal needs while living at home.

The Long Term Care Ombudsman handles complaints on behalf of persons age 60 and older who receive services in their own home, in the community, in nursing homes, and in adult care homes. All complaints are kept confidential and are handled free of charge.
